OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Working together to unite our Jewish community in meeting the needs and improving the lives of Jews at home, in Israel, and around the world.

The Allocations Committee researches and evaluates funding requests from local, state, national, Israeli and other overseas agencies.  The committee makes recommendations to the Federation Board of Directors.  Following are some of the agencies or organizations that are recipients from our 2012 Fiscal Year campaign.

The Jewish Home For The Elderly - Fairfield

 

Kesher Project – A program for Jewish developmentally challenged men and women of all ages that live in group or private homes.  They meet monthly at Congregation B’nai Israel in Bridgeport to celebrate the Jewish holidays.

 

Circle of Friends

A program designed to foster a relationship between children, teens and young adults with special needs and community teenage volunteers.  They meet at Beth Israel Synagogue of Westport/Norwalk.

 

Friendship Circle of Fairfield County
A program that serves children with special needs. Includes a Birthday Club, holiday celebrations, sibling support groups - geared to children ages 5 - 12.

 

Positive Directions – The Center for Prevention & Recovery, Inc. Operates an Adolescent Treatment program designed for adolescents ages 13 to 21 and their families coping with adolescent drug or alcohol use and  other addictive behaviors and associated emotional issues.

Anti-Defamation League (Connecticut office)

Camp Gan Israel- the only Jewish day camp in the Westport, Weston, Wilton, Norwalk region.  Provides cutting edge programming infused with a Jewish spirit, ideals and values.

 

Israeli Young Emissary Program:

A program in which 18-year olds from the Afula-Gilboa region in Israel defer their army service for one year to come and live in our community.  They work in our synagogues, religious and public schools, as well as our local agencies, sharing their knowledge and love of Israel with us. 

 

OVERSEAS

 

Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA)

Umbrella Federation organization: allocates funds overseas.

 

American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee   (JDC).

In the Volga Region of the Former Soviet Union (FSU) - provide welfare: hunger relief, winter relief, medical care for the elderly; provide Jewish renewal to children, families and the elderly.    In Israel;  help fight Jewish poverty. click here to view their website 

Southern New England Consortium (SNEC) funds many social services agencies in Afula-Gilboa region - our sister cities.

Sarah Herzog Emunah Children's Center in Afula -Israel provides residential care for children referred through Child Services. Also has a day care intervention program for children who do not need to be removed from their home. click here to view their website

Birthright Israel  offers the gift of a free 10 day educational trip to Israel for Jewish youth between the ages of 18 - 26.  click here to view their website
